What Are the Very Basic Properties of the Trapezoids

The trapezoid is the quadrilateral that will be having two parallel sides and it is also known as the trapezium in some parts of the world. A trapezoid is the 4-sided closed shape or figure which will be covering some of the areas and it will also be having its perimeter. So, it is very much important for people to be clear about the formula of area of trapezoid so that they can indulge in accurate decisions every time without any kind of issue. The sides which will be parallel to each other will be known as the bases of the trapezoid and this is a 2-D figure but not a 3-D figure. The non-parallel sides of the trapezoid are known as legs and the distance between the parallel sides will be known as the altitude. The area of trapezium is also a very important aspect to be taken into consideration because of its practical relevance in the whole world. As per the formal definition it can be also considered as a type of parallelogram because of the presence of parallel sides in it.

Some of the basic types of trapezoid have been perfectly explained as:

  • The right trapezoid will be having a pair of right angles into it
  • Isosceles trapezoid will be the one in which non-parallel sides of the legs of the trapezoid will be of equal length.
  • Scalene trapezoid will be the one in which neither the sides nor the angles of the trapezium will be equal at any point of time in the whole process.

The trapezoid is a four-sided shape that will be having one pair of parallel sides and it is also known as a two-dimensional figure which is very much similar to the rectangle, parallelogram and Square. Hence, this particular shape will be having a perimeter as well as area in the whole process.

The formula for the area of the trapezoid has been given by:

The formula for the area will be 1/2 into A+ B into H in this particular case A+ B will be the average of bases and H will be the altitude of the trapezium.

The formula for the perimeter of the trapezoid has been given as the sum of all the sides and it can also be stated as A+ B plus C plus D.

Some of the basic properties of the trapezoid are explained as:

  • The base angles and diagonals of the Isosceles trapezoid will be equal
  • If people go with the option of drawing the median onto the trapezium then it will be parallel to the bases and its length will be the average of the length of the bases.
  • The intersection point of the diagonals will be collinear to the midpoints of two opposite sides
  • If ever there will be a trapezium with sides A+ B+ C plus D and diagonals P and Q then the equation will be true as:

P Square + Q Square = C Square + B square + 2AB

It is very much important for the kids to be clear about this particular area in the whole process so that there is no issue at any point in time and further being clear about the basic properties of the trapezium is another very vital aspect to be taken into consideration by the people in the whole process. Basic attributes of the trapezium should be very much clear in the minds of kids and these are explained as:

  • Base angles and diagonals of the Isosceles trapezium will be equal
  • The intersection point of the diagonals will be collinear to the midpoint of the opposite sides
  • Opposite sides of the Isosceles trapezium will be of equal length or congruent to each other

Hence, depending upon Cuemath is the best way of ensuring that everybody will be having a good command over every aspect of the shape of trapezoid very easily and effectively.
